Just a disclaimer at the start, this is more or less a test blog to see how it will look on the website.

Has anyone thought about all of the visual stuff that needed to be made for any given basketball club?

No, I am not talking about all the times the coach drew something on his clipboard. I am talking about visuals like logos, colours, typography, social media posts and in fact this website.

Short intro time, hi! I am the graphic designer behind Calgary Impact Basketball, you may have seen me with the team taking photos but most of my time is stuck behind a screen doing creative things and stuff. I have a deep background in sports having played most of them in jr high and high school but now I am just involved with Rugby as a player and also referee (9 years in fact). I've known Coach Wahid forever and whenever he needed something like a logo he would ask me (though at the time of the creation of the first logo I was still in school learning all this stuff).

Back on the note of websites, it will be the second time I have made a full website from start to finish, with the first being my own. The difference between the one for Impact Basketball and my own is that I coded mine and this one will be done through Wix Studio, after all, I can't be bothered to teach all the coaches how to code just to make a blog post. The development of this website lined up nicely with our rebranding, I am sure you saw it on our Instagram, it is an evolution of the old one with the aim to focus in on who we are. This in turn makes it easier for me to to decide things like what colours to use in certain scenarios (something I am doing often on this website).

Now is a good time to go over the aspects that needed to be considered that led us to use Wix, the main one is the functionality that will make this website useful for all of the players and their parents/guardians. The biggest example of this would be scheduling events. Having all of the tryouts, practices, and matches on one page shown on a calendar is something that both Wahid and I have been wanting for a while. Now in year 2, I think it is time we got it working.

What about blogging how will that help the players?

Well, yes it may seem like so far this blog is just a space for rambling on about nothing at all, (it is only the first post cut me some slack). We hope to use this space to post long-form information that may not fit on social media, things like major updates, tournament debriefs, insights from the coaches, and photo galleries. There are probably many more ideas we could try out and as always we are open to suggestions.

Okay, okay, I am going to wrap it up here before I get on about logos, after all this is a basketball club website, not a graphic design one. Who would have thought that one assignment on blogging I did in my marketing class would actually come to something.

Anyway, I am looking forward to what year 2 has to offer and continuing to develop this website some more.
